Monstrous Regiment

A collaboration between Monstrous Productions Theatre Company and Peculiar Productions, under the co-direction of Amy Curson and Ed Thomas.

On the 11 year anniversary of the production originally performed with a university drama society and 10 years on from their first independent production Monstrous Productions were back for a maybe ‘one-off’ collaboration with Peculiar Productions.

A coming of age story, where a strategic pair of socks makes a surprisingly big difference to your place in the world. With patriotism, stupidity and camaraderie; a troop of ‘little lads’ pull together to rescue the men, find themselves, their big brother’s, fiancé’s, freedom and overhaul a fossil government.

We could not be prouder to be donating £1,200 each to Shelter Cymru and Gwent Children’s Diabetes Team. We hope you enjoyed and we’ll see you again soon.

A Tomb With A View raises £2,370

Peculiar Productions’ dark comedy murder mystery, A Tomb With A View, managed to raise £2,370 for Simpson’s Memory Box Appeal.

Held on the 25th – 29th February, the reading of the late Septimus Tomb’s will revealed a secret bequest to a complete stranger. Threats were made by jealous family members, and someone decides to act on their impulses. Soon enough, the stranger ends up dead.

The event received praise from the National Operatic and Dramatic Association, and every member of the cast had left an impression on the reviewer:

Arcadia: Meet Terrance, Butler in the Know

Our featured actor this week is lovely Terrance, playing eyes and ears of Sidley Park, the butler Jellaby, in ‘Arcadia’.

With Monstrous Productions Terrance played roles such as Mr Vitoller in ‘Wyrd Sisters’, and in our August show ‘The Truth’ was the shady Lord de Worde. He also uses his talents behind the scenes with Watchers Productions, writing and producing for them in addition to occasional on-screen acting.

‘The Truth’ raises £5k for Cardiff Mind

One in four adults in the UK will experience difficulties with mental health at some point this year. One in six are going through it in any given week. These statistics, from mental health charity Mind, help show why support for mental health – a topic many find it difficult to discuss – is so important.

It’s also why we chose to support a mental health cause for our first-ever production, Terry Pratchett’s The Truth, earlier this year. Cardiff Mind has been an invaluable service to the Cardiff community for decades, having been registered as a charity and company since 1993. They provide assistance ranging from counselling to domiciliary support and more.

Peculiar Slice: Arcadia’s Bernard Nightingale

Meet the team kneading and proving Peculiar’s next production Arcadia ready to rise to the stage in February 2019!

Who are you and what you got cookin’?

I’m serving up Bernard Nightingale, a University Don. He’s turned up to help gather evidence to support an exciting new theory about Lord Byron that will rightfully catapult him into fame in academic circles. He stands out in the play as a character that leads with his heart and his gut (would never follow the ingredients list) rather than the more reserved and logical people we meet.

Peculiar Slice: Arcadia’s Lighting Designer

Meet the team kneading and proving Peculiar’s next production Arcadia ready to rise to the stage in February 2019!

Who are you and what you got cookin’?

I’m John, the lighting designer, and I’ll be cooking up a storm of light. Arcadia has some moody scenes and different times of day, so I’ll be making the sets come to life with a bit of technical magic.

What ingredients do you need as lighting designer and what gets your taste-buds tingling the most?
