Peculiar Slice: Arcadia’s Production Manager

Meet the team kneading and proving Peculiar’s next production Arcadia ready to rise to the stage in February 2019!

Who are you and what you got cookin’?

I’m Sam, the Production Manager and I’m currently getting together a wicked team of people to bring Arcadia to life.

What ingredients do you need as Production Manager and what gets your taste-buds tingling the most?

You’ve got to be able to see the bigger picture of the production, but also make sure that everything that can possibly happen or not happen has been accounted for. My favourite part is that there’s nearly always a new challenge and new ways to work to get the best results.

What age or time in your life did you roll into theatre and who has inspired you?

I started in theatre in a backstage role (surprise!) when I was 16/17 – I’d just finished GCSE and the local theatre had a summer production that some friends were in, so I decided to see what all the fuss was about. I really enjoyed it, and even ended up on stage a few years running as it was so much fun!

What exciting challenges do you have in store for the Arcadia crewbies?

I’m hoping to be able to get people doing things that they may not have tried before – I’ve talked to a few people who want to try working on some technical parts of the show that haven’t done it either at all or for a very long time, so I’m looking forward to working with them to make sure they’re confident and happy with what they’re doing to get the best result.

Sweet or Savoury?

Sweet.

What is your recipe for fun?

Most of my spare time is still theatre related, but I enjoy going to see local bands at some of the clubs around Cardiff, and if I’m in the mood playing video games.

What would be your Desert Island Dish be?

Risotto, probably – it’s one of the first thing I properly learnt how to cook, and I still find it super comforting and simple to enjoy.

Who is your favourite baker in GBBO 2018?

Kim-Joy has impressed me so far with some decent bakes, and I think she’s got potential to go far.

What would be the cherry on the top?

Everyone having a great time! I want this to be a fun experience for everyone involved, and of course raising a good amount of money for the charity we’re supporting, The Brain Tumour Charity.
